Casting and Costume- Research

Costume is a vital part of Mine en scene and the music video according to Andrew Goodwin costume helps to create a certain image about the character and personality of the artist as well as portraying a certain image to the audience.

Our costume was an important part of our video as it represented genre our music video conforms to. We had to make sure the costume for especially our lead singer was detailed as the focus was mainly targeted at him. Also, due to the fact that the lead singers identity would not be revealed this increased the need for creating a costume which would coordinate well with our props and be appealing to an audience.

From my audience feedback, I found that the casual but also edgy style was most appealing, we created different mood boards to find the right costume which would fit our particular video.

We also found that we wanted to coordinate colour through our video, we had to make sure the costume worked well with our location and props, especially the peach. When reviewing my RMA research I found that most bands aim to coordinate both costume and the style of their music video, through colours. This mood board helped us to choose the write colours and style we wanted.

The lead singer appears in two different locations, therefore we needed two different costumes.

For the drummer, we also wanted to keep in theme of the colour scheme and we  wanted to incorporate oranges and yellows and to increase brand loyalty.

Also, for our lead guitarist we found many guitarist dressed in black and we thought this colour may add some change and dynamic to our video as the video begins to harshen towards the end and we thought black would coordinate well with a turn to a darker tone within our music video.

For our keyboard player, who mainly appeared behind the background of fairy lights, we also wanted to coordinate colour to ensure that the costume and background worked well to produce an appealing product. Our blue fairy lights within our set worked well with the blue jacket we picked out. We aimed for a casual yet chic look for our cast.

Casting: From looking back to my RMA Research I found most member from the band had a fun, humorous persona and we wanted someone who could be confident in front of the camera as well as fun and relatable to our target audience. We found that many artists, were engaging and confident and we wanted to ensure that we found the right cast for our production. We also aimed to find a lead singer who could play well on an acoustic guitar to ensure that our video was realistic and professional.
