Lighting Research & Planning

We would like to use low key lighting during the performance shots, we would like to highlight this night time effect preparing the audience for the dark transition within the lyrics. This can be also be seen as a convention shown the American Rejects Gives you hell where they are performing in basement while we can clearly see the low key lighting effect. The fact that it was night time ultimately emphasises the lanterns, fairy lights to give the space a retro, vibrant image about the space and the band. Also suggesting a fun, newer style within this punk genre and emphasises this artistic yet effective atmosphere were are trying to portray within our music video. Such as as Andrew's Goodwin's music video, lighting helps set the tone of the music video, and a change of lighting can also reflect the change in the beat or change in the tone of the lyrics. This can also be used to amplify a change in case or lyrics. This can also amplify the use of fairy lights, to light up the room, we want to create a warm tone within the beginning verses and chorus of the song with the use of orange/peach coloured lights this is used to reflect the warm, light exterior of the music and lyrics at the very beginning of the song. Like in suggested in Goodwin's theory, having images and lighting associated with the music and as well as the lyrics of the song can increase the chances of the audience member feeling connected as well as engaged therefor promoting the song. This bright lighting can create a vibrant atmosphere as well as generating a luminous location. This can draw attention to the lead singer which can also act as a spotlight for the band and promote this artist image.

Andrew's Goodwin's music video, lighting helps set the tone of the music video, and a change of lighting can also reflect the change in the beat or change in the tone of the lyrics. This can also be used to amplify a change in case or lyrics. We would like to change the tone to a much more darker tone with harmony in the change in the darker undertone of the lyrics to amplify this change engaging with the audience. This transition to a more darker, red lighting either changed within post production or a change in the fairy lights. The red has connotations of danger, rebellion as well as blood which has associations with the lyrics during this specific section, 'cut' which is reminiscent of blood. This can engage and can replicate the song in this way. This can act as a promotion technique according the Andrew Goodwin.
