TRANSITION RECREATION
For our first editing task we were asked to recreate a video transition from a music video called 'Everyone's Waiting' by Missy Higgins. To create this music video, we wanted to have a similar natural setting like the original video. We chose a location where we could position the actor further away from the background location, allowing us to create a shallow depth of field like in the music video. We experimented with the manual focus to create the right shallow depth of field.
The lip syncing was a challenge while trying to recreate the music video, as the camera automatically stopped filming. We managed to film the actor lip sync the whole song out of time to be able to recreate the music video. During post production, we used Adobe Premiere Pro to slow down the video by using speed duration, i had to cut the video in half to be able to increase or decrease the speed/duration to successfully match the music. We also used a transitional effect, a cross dissolve to create a smoother transition between the two shots. In addition, we used two shots to allow the pan to extend, with a cross dissolve to create an even effect to equal the pan in the video.
We also experimented with the use of colour correction by creating a warmer or colder tone depending on which colour best suited the match of the music video. The first part of the music video we chose a colder tone, during the pan we increased the darkness and warmth to equal the change in tone in the music video. This gave us a chance to experiment with the use of colour correction to create the perfect tone.
If we were going to do this task again, we would have to make sure the battery is fully charged, therefore we would cease to use the speed/duration in post production, producing a more effective shot.
